Do We Look Like Monsters?

Episode 5 · Session 5 · September 15, 2026

Six O'Clock Every Night

Three graves on a hillside: two small ones for Rose and Thorn, and an empty one for Balasar. Beowolfe hears snoring over the ridge and finds a silver dragonborn asleep against a gravestone with a greataxe on his chest. His name is Nashkan Silverwing. Call him Nash, never Ken. He's Balasar's cousin, and he came to Daggerford because Balasar wrote asking for help finding his father. Beowolfe has to tell him Balasar is dead, and that they couldn't even bring the body out.

The road is empty and muddy with no footprints on it. A dead man lies in the water with his arm pointing into the trees, his shoes worn through. The tracks lead to a horse ridden until it dropped, with an unsigned note in the saddlebag, and then into a wall of fog that burns in the lungs and pulls the party apart. Nash rages at the trees. When they find each other again, the tracks bring them right back to the same corpse. In his fist is a compass, and it isn't pointing north. It points at the skeleton that comes walking up the road.

Past a buried hand that heals itself and a pack of zombies that come out of the scrub, they reach a town under a castle. Ismark, the burgomaster's son, lets them in. The dead come at six o'clock every night, in waves. Half the town has fled to Vallaki. His father Kolyan is bedridden, the priest's son Doru has been missing for a week, the priest has locked himself in the church, and a girl named Gertruda rode off in the night after Doru.

Remi notices a bite on Eric the tavern keeper's neck. Eric can't remember the night he got it. Remi heals it with the last of Klara's locket, then holds up a scrap of mirror. Eric has a reflection, and you can see through it. Three hours before the attack, the party climbs to the dark church, where one light burns in the bell tower and somebody is moving toward them out of the mist.

Said at the table

“Gentlemen, let's kill each other.”

— Nash

“Have you ever seen an undead that can talk? Are you blind? Or deaf, I guess.”

— Nash

“Good job almost starving your village.”

— Lucy
