Do We Look Like Monsters?

Episode 3 · Session 3 · September 1, 2026

He Promised Them Flowers

The girl in the mirror can't speak, but she can point. She leads them to a crib with a name on it, Walter, and to a hidden stair behind the nursery mirror. At the top, behind a locked door, a child asks if they've brought food. Rose and Thorn, the children from the portrait, have been waiting in the attic since their mother stopped feeding them. She turned their baby brother into a monster to please her master, Rose says. And Petra was a lure the house uses to draw the innocent in.

Genji wraps their bones in a bedsheet and promises to bury them by flowers. To leave the room the children have to ride along. Thorn slips into Beowolfe like smoke, and Rose goes into Genji on one condition: that they keep looking for Petra. The girl in the mirror is Klara, their nursemaid. They find what's left of her folded into a trunk.

Elizabeth Durst rises out of a rocking chair and promises to feed their bones to her son. Her claws drop Beowolfe at once, and Thorn offers his own soul to bring him back. Beowolfe says no. The party drives her off, but she isn't destroyed. An amber shard in a demon painting's mouth opens a stair to the cellar, where there's a well full of hands, a spiked pit, and a room of Durst urns. Lucy touches one. The ancestors pour out and put three of the five on the floor, until Genji, with Rose inside him, tears them apart one by one. The party rests in the reliquary. It's fifteen minutes to midnight.

Said at the table

“You should have left, but now I will take your bones and feed them to my son.”
